After earning my first writer’s residency, I finally see what all the fuss is about having a work space in a gem of a location. As soon as I park at the Estate, I absorb the landscape, the history, the Florida of it all. My thinking patterns change. My imagination becomes green, blue and mango. Hence, my writing thickens, and as I lay it down in a structure like a novel I’m working on or a swampy poem, it, like a vine, overtakes my tone, setting, mood, material, imagination and character development. The location of my writing space highly influences my creative process. I am entirely too entwined with the Earth.
